Easter 2017 – The Cross: Its Passion and Power – Ps. Ivan Satyavrata

# THE PASSION OF THE CROSS

# THE POWER OF THE CROSS

Mark 15:37-3937With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last. 38The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. 39And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, saw how he died, he said, “Surely this man was the Son of God!”

1] The Power of Love over Hate

Father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing [Luke 23:34]

2] The Power of Heaven over Hell

I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise [Luke 23:43]

# Only the power of the Cross can take a sinner at hell’s doorway and make him a saint fit for heaven

3] The Power of Life over Death

Father, into your hands I commit my spirit [Luke 23:46]

Matt 27:50-5350And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. 51At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split 52and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. 53They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people.

Matt 27:54When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!”

Luke 24:1-81On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. 2They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. 5In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: 7‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ” 8Then they remembered his words.
