1] FAITH

Rom 4:18-21 – ¹⁸Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations…¹⁹Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. ²⁰Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, ²¹being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.

Eph 2:8 – For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God

Jas 2:23 – Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith. He was even called the friend of God

2] FRIENDSHIP

Abraham:

“your friend” – in King Jehoshaphat’s prayer [2 Chron 20:7]

“my friend” – God speaking through Isaiah [Isa 41:8]

# The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb

John 15:13-15 – Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants…Instead, I have called you friends

3] COVENANT PEOPLE

Exo 19:4-6 – ⁴You have seen what I did to the Egyptians. You know how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. ⁵Now if you will obey me and keep my covenant, you will be my own special treasure from among all the peoples on earth; for all the earth belongs to me. ⁶And you will be my kingdom of priests, my holy nation…

1 Pet 2:9 – But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light

# We are the Covenant People of God – now part of God’s Mission Impossible…to save the world!

4] SACRIFICE

Gen 22:2 – Take your son, your only son—yes, Isaac, whom you love so much…Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you

Gen 22:5 – The boy and I will travel a little farther. We will worship there, and then we will come right back

Heb 11:17,19 – ¹⁷It was by faith that Abraham offered Isaac as a sacrifice when God was testing him… ¹⁹Abraham reasoned that if Isaac died, God was able to bring him back to life again. And in a sense, Abraham did receive his son back from the dead

5] POWER

Rom 1:4 – …was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord

Rom 1:16 – For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes
