God’s Mission Impossible – Ps. Ivan Satyavrata

Gen 12:1-41The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. 2“I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” 4So Abram went, as the Lord had told him…

Rom 4:18-2118Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations…19Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. 20Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, 21being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.

Eph 2:8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God

Jas 2:23Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith. He was even called the friend of God

“your friend” – in King Jehoshaphat’s prayer [2 Chron 20:7]

“my friend” – God speaking through Isaiah [Isa 41:8]

# The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb

John 15:13-15Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants…Instead, I have called you friends

Exo 19:4-64You have seen what I did to the Egyptians. You know how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. 5Now if you will obey me and keep my covenant, you will be my own special treasure from among all the peoples on earth; for all the earth belongs to me. 6And you will be my kingdom of priests, my holy nation…

1 Pet 2:9But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light

# We are the Covenant People of God – now part of God’s Mission Impossible…to save the world!

Gen 22:2Take your son, your only son—yes, Isaac, whom you love so much…Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you

Gen 22:5The boy and I will travel a little farther. We will worship there, and then we will come right back

Heb 11:17,19 17It was by faith that Abraham offered Isaac as a sacrifice when God was testing him… 19Abraham reasoned that if Isaac died, God was able to bring him back to life again. And in a sense, Abraham did receive his son back from the dead

Rom 1:4 – …was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord

Rom 1:16For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes
